Last year was my first introduction to the Clapton Country Club. I live just around the corner from there and to my delight it’s also a great wedding venue in Hackney!
As a local wedding makeup artist I had a wonderful opportunity to do the makeup for a bride named Emily. I was genuinely so excited as the wedding was to take place at the CCC so I couldn’t wait to work with someone getting married there.
Perfecting the Look: Makeup Trial and Bridal Preferences
Emily was lovely to work with. We had the trial at her home locally too, so my carbon footprint was nice and low. We got on really well and she knew what she wanted in terms of Makeup for her wedding day.
We did a trial and I tried a few looks on her based on the images she sent me. Emily preferred a full coverage foundation along with a golden shine that really emphasised her blue eyes, this was defined with a brown eyeliner softened with eye shadow. She didn't need any false lashes as hers were naturally beautiful and full, so I applied one coat of waterproof mascara to the top and bottom lashes. I knew the foundation would withstand all weathers as I’ve used this particular brand for a long time and I trust it 100%, so I always carry it in my kit for any last minute nervous marks that might arise. A rose tone of blush is perfect to create freshness on the apple of the cheeks, and the lips were kept to a natural tone using a lip balm for preparation along with a lip stain blended with a brush.
Building a Natural Look: The Art of Foundation Application
I usually add various tones of the foundation onto a palette and work from there in small amounts. This is the way I like to build up the coverage and tone using a flat foundation brush to apply, then a densely packed brush to blend. That way you get a more natural looking result with full coverage rather than using a 'striping method’ with 2 or 3 shades all at once which can feel and look 'cakey'. Emily was absolutely thrilled with the makeup and agreed to hire me for her wedding day at Clapton Country Club!!! - I couldn’t wait!
Behind the Scenes: Planning and Timings for Wedding Day Makeup
The makeup application on the Wedding Day was a dream. I planned out the makeup schedule, with Emily's final approval for the morning. This schedule was not only for Emily but also her mother and four bridesmaids. Emily opted for a local hair salon she knew for her hair, a decision that worked out perfectly. Meanwhile, I began working on the bridal party, they were so happy with their results especially not having had a trial first. With each member of the bridal party taking 40 minutes, we commenced early to ensure a smooth process. Once Emily returned from the salon, I was able to begin her personalised makeup service. I did the final touch-ups for everyone, sealing the looks with a fixing spray to enhance the longevity of the makeup.
Clapton Country Club's Bridal Haven: A Perfect Setup for Makeup & Hair
CCC has a private dressing room with a workstation for wedding makeup & hair next to a large window - which is so important to create a natural makeup application. It has a lounge area with sofas to relax in, surrounded by books and a small area with kitchen facilities. So it’s a great space for family & bridal parties to gather to relax if you so wish. Photographers love this space too as it gives a warm feel to the images with great light. All these beautiful moments were captured by Ami Robertson Wedding Photographer @amirobertsonphotographer
Local and Sustainable: Shared Values with Clapton Country Club
Since Emily's beautiful wedding day last year, I am thrilled to announce my inclusion on the recommended suppliers list of Clapton Country Club. While living just around the corner to them (literally a 15 minute walk) we also share the same values of sustainability, supporting local businesses and the LGBTQ community.
If you're a bride looking for a professional makeup artist in East London, I welcome the opportunity to arrange a casual coffee meet-up after you've had a chance to explore the CCC. This gives us the chance to discuss any makeup-related queries, go over the day's schedule, and build a rapport. Having a face-to-face conversation prior to the trial allows us to delve into your preferences and determine if we're a good match, making the trial day a more seamless and enjoyable experience.
